Our Social Services programs are designed to provide support to those in our community afflicted by physical and/or mental illness.
There are many women who unfortunately are confined to local care homes who have no family at all or no family who visit. The Woman's Club of Medford has, over the years, 'adopted' several of these women. We visit when we can, we celebrate their birthdays and other holidays and simply try to bring a little joy into their lives.
To bring extra cheer to the Medford Care Center during the holiday season, club members have made a tradition of caroling through the dining hall and distributing handmade lap blankets.
The Woman's Club of Medford has 'adopted' a men's cottage at the New Lisbon Developmental Center. The center is home to developmentally disabled men and women and works to help with an emphasis on behavior modification and forms of treatment. WCOM provides holiday gift bags and other necessary items.
Our members have participated in the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) walks both in person and virtually over the years.
May is Mental Illness Awareness Month and our club makes note of this with meeting programs focusing on our own mental illness and what we can all do to support not only others but ourselves as well.
In the past, club members have participated in Special Olympics events throughout our area including the New Jersey State Games held in early June every year at The College of New Jersey.
